CUPPING
Cupping is a traditional therapy used in many cultures including, but not limited to, China. This therapy is done by creating suction inside, and then application, of a plastic or glass 'jar' or cup to specific therapeutic points or general areas of tension on the body. Cupping serves to remove the 'blockage' of qi and blood that is causing pain or discomfort. I use this often in my practice.
HERBAL TECHNIQUES
Herbs have a rich and storied history in tradtional Chinese medicine. This has been one of my greatest interests in traditional techniques and I have learned to apply their use in a number of ways including teas or decoctions taken internally or topical applications through the use of pastes, plasters, powders, liniments or moist heat. Herbal techniques help to restore balance to the body and promote wellness.
GUASHA
Gua sha is another traditional technique used to remove blockage from the superficial soft tissue of the body as well as pathogens that were traditionally referred to as Wind, Cold, and Damp that also cause discomfort. In my practice guasha is done by sliding a jade stone across large areas of the body especially the neck, upper back and ribs.
